Why Not Now!!!

In this microwave, instant, face paced world you would think everything would be done quickly. We have fast food to ease our hunger. We have movies on demand to entertain us. We have the internet at our fingertips at all time to look up information, to find something we just can’t live without, to get money and give money (if anyone is itching to do this, let me know), to do so many thing we don’t even need to get out of our chair. We live in a world of “I want it now!”  And we get it now!

Herein lies the dilemma. These things are not life saving or even life changing. But the things that are… We wait.

I recently saw on social media where people were excited because someone they knew wanted baptized. Thank you Jesus. This is so wonderful! As I read on it was stated the baptism would be at the end of the month baptism service. Why not now!

I have heard people ask someone to pray for them and that person tells them “I’ll request prayer for you at church!” Or someone ask about God and it won’t be the right place or the right time. Now is not a good time they’re told or come to Bible study. Why not now!

These are things that are LIFE changing. And if they are pushed off to not now or later, we may just have missed the opportunity of their lifetime. We never know what tomorrow may bring. What if Jesus had said, “Just give me a few more years. I haven’t done enough yet.”? Or Ananias said “I’ll pray for Saul at prayer meeting.”? Or what if someone had said to you or me, “Not now. I’m busy.”?

Years ago my family determined we should be praying, talking, and reaching out on a Right Now basis. If we get a text that someone needs prayer and we’re in a restaurant eating, we all put down our forks and hold hands and pray. If someone comes into our church and wants baptized, we call up a church with a baptistry and go over for an old fashioned baptizing service. If someone wants to know about the Jesus we serve, we are more than willing to tell them right then.

There are some things that are a convenience to have right now.  But they are not imperative to seeing people healed, saved and lives changed. That’s why when Jesus gave the great commission in Mark 16:15.

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” He meant right now.
