Forget Not

“ Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” Psalm 103:2

In this world of woeful Willies, and Negative Nellys, and grumpy Oscar the grouches, we become searchers of the negative, sad, bad and just downright miserable. We live our days looking for (and finding, I might add) things to complain about or just to point out all the things that are wrong.  We even find comfort in the fact that someone else is worse off than we are. We breeze past the benefits of God so fast that we never see them. Or we just expect them as our due for just being here on earth because we are just about as perfect as we can get. 😳

What if, just if, we looked at things with a grateful heart. We actually rejoiced in the blessings of God. Here is a good example. David was anointed king at an early age. We think “He had it made.” But he had to go back to watching the sheep and killing lions and bears that tried to steal the sheep.  He was made fun of by his brothers, chased by King Saul to kill him, turned upon by his own men. And yet his heart was still toward God. All thru the Psalms David said things like 

“Every day I will bless You. And I will praise Your name forever.” 145:2

“Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgements.” 119:164

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” 34:1

What has He done for you? Think about that! Read it again. What has He done for you?

Just some of the basics. Do you have a place to live? Do you have food to eat? Clothes to wear? Money to spend? How about things He’s brought you through… sickness, loss, flood, fire. Just thinking of these blessings makes me want to shout HALLELUJAH! Thank you Jesus for all your blessings. If you are in the mullygrubs, I challenge you to start a blessings list. Hang it some where you can see it. Add to it until there is no space on it then start another. Your mullys won’t have much to grub about when you forget not to praise God for all His blessings.
