I Love Honey!

 I love honey! In my tea, in my coffee, on toast, on peanut butter, on a spoon. I currently have about 10 different kinds of honey! 😁  So I guess you would say that honey is the bee’s knees to me!  Did you know that honey is a wonderful example of God's care for us? Psalm 104:24 “O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions.”  Here are some of the things God built into honey. 

First it is a wonderful sweetener! It is 25% sweeter than sugar. It comes in different flavors and colors depending on the flowers the bees collect nectar from. Honey can also be infused with other flavors. These are facts that most people know. God’s word is even sweeter than honey. Psalm 119:103 states “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”

Honey has healing properties. It was used for wounds as far back as ancient Egypt.  It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used for things such as burns, wounds, and sore throats. Jesus became that healing salve for us on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24 “who Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness— by whose stripes you were healed.”

Just recently I found out that honey can be used as a sleep aide. Taking a spoonful before bed, in a round about scientific way, can help create melatonin and supports a calming bedtime ritual to help you fall asleep. Jesus even provided sleep for the righteous. Proverbs 3:24 says “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; yes, you will lie down and your sleep shall be sweet.”

It is the only food produced by an insect. And if stored properly, honey never spoils! Even if it crystallizes, it is still okay to use! Not sure if you follow my thought path but here goes. If we truly believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and repent, be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive the Holy Spirit (speaking in tongues as evidence) as written in Acts 2:38 and live our lives for Him, we can have confidence that He will preserve us. “for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that day.” 2 Timothy 1:12

Is it any wonder that King David said in Psalm 34:8 “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good;”.

 I am reading a book, “Everybody’s Normal Till You Get To Know Them” by John Ortberg.  Yeah.  Cool title!  He starts out with everybody’s weird.  Well news flash! But the sentence that pricked my heart was on page 95. “Why do churches produce so many stone throwers?” Back in the Old Testament, the law (in Leviticus and Deuteronomy), the punishment for sins was to throw stones at the sinner until they were dead. Commit adultery - stone them. Worship another god - stone them. Rebellious child - stone them. Da dada DA! 👑

 All I have to say is Imperial Margarine, for some of my readers to understand the name of this blog. I would encourage the rest of you to Google Imperial Margarine commercial some time. Especially the 1970’s commercial with both the little girl and little boy trying the margarine. They are really cute.  When I was little, my grandma had a box of old jewelry in her dresser that we were allowed to play with. I loved layering on necklaces, clip earrings, and rings while making believe I was a princess (this is probably where I got my love of bling). The only thing missing was the tiara. But I have a great imagination, so the tiara was there too. I even tried eating Imperial Margarine. Unfortunately, Da dada DAH… doesn't  really put a crown on your head. 🤣 My mom and dad never permitted “princess” behavior. However, I must admit I have had my share of princess attitudes. I’m Never Down! Really?

 Have you ever heard the saying, “I’m never down. I’m either up or getting up.”? The premise is really good, nice, warm and fuzzy even, but totally BOGUS! There are times you truly are down! I have had times in my life when I was down. Really down! When the doctor told me I had cancer, my world plummeted. I thought how could I have gotten cancer! I never smoked, I never had sex, I never took drugs, I never did anything to cause cancer! Why me?!  My world crashed when my dad, developed dementia and died from related complications.  Then two years later my mom died from Covid. And my world crashed again. There were 2 parent sized holes left in my heart.  You say, man you have had a rough time! I’m not telling you this for sympathy. My point is these and other situations will cause times when you are down. Truly down! It is a part of the human existence.  It is called life. However you cannot spend your life down wallowing in despair, pain, and yes, at times, pity....
