Time To Make The Donuts…

Back in the eighties there was a commercial “Time to make the donuts.” The donut maker would go to make the donuts then come back home saying I made the donuts . He did this so much that eventually he met himself coming back from making donuts as he was leaving to make the donuts. He started out all spry and upright. He ended up all worn out and dragging. We never see if he got to enjoy a donut or anything else. This became his whole life.

In our daily struggle, getting up, going to work, doing chores, taking care of family, the list goes on and on. We make that list. Check off the things we get done. Write a new list for tomorrow of the leftovers and new chores for that day. I even add things to my list that I completed just so I can check it off! We know we need to spend time with God but it becomes a part of our to do list. A “have to” instead of a “get to”. It becomes a drudgery that we squeeze into our lives. Something to check off our list of done things.

We breathe a sigh of relief. Whew! That’s done. ✅

At times, we keep pushing it to the end of our list because we are so busy putting out “fires” that are more important than time spent “just reading our Bible and praying”.  Soon we wonder what’s the big deal. I’m doing okay. 😳 I remember some verses and I pray for my meals.

After a while, we wonder where God is and why He isn’t listening to us, but He IS still there. It is us who have walked away. In James 4 verse 8, we find we are to  “draw near to God and He will draw near to you”.  But we say, “I have so much to do and all of it is important!”

How can we not take time with our dad, our heavenly daddy!?   In Matthew 6 verse 33, it tells us to search out God, His kingdom and His righteousness. After this, all these additional things are added to you. Jesus first, then everything else. Don’t worry about it all getting done in one day. I’m here to tell you it will still need done tomorrow, but time spent with Jesus is for eternity. Put Jesus first in your day. Give the rest of the day to Him. Cast all your cares, issues, and problems on Him. Why? Because He cares about you.
